Mountain Gorilla Safari Rwanda
4 Days/3Nights:
Volcanoes National Park/Kigali
This safari captures the essence of Rwanda " a visit to the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda. Meeting these gentle giants in their natural habitat is a world unique experience everyone should have the privilege to experience. Participants on this trip will, as extra options, also have the opportunity to visit the recently habituated Golden Monkeys or trek up to the grave of Dian Fossey.
Day 1:
Arrive to Kigali International Airport where you will be met by our representative and your driver / guide for the safari. Lunch either in Kigali or Ruhengeri depending on arrival time. Proceed north to the foothills of the volcanoes that make up Volcanoes National Park. You have the choice of staying at the moderately priced Gorillas nest or the Virunga Lodge which is a high quality eco lodge with magnificent views over both the volcanoes and Lake Burera and Ruhondo.There is also the option of staying at the exlusive Sabinyo Silverback lodge.
Traveling time from Kigali to Volcanoes area; 3-4 hours.

Day 2
Early breakfast before proceeding to the park head quarters where visitors assemble at 07.00 for a briefing on how to” behave” while in the company of a gorilla group. You will meet your guide here and proceed to the starting point of the trek to our allocated group of gorillas. The length of the trek varies depending on where the gorillas are as well as what the weather conditions are.
It is important to bring good hiking boots, long trousers and gloves for protection against stinging nettles, some snacks & sweets as well as sufficient amount of water as the rain forest gets hot and humid during the day. You spend one hour with the gorillas which is a truly amazing experience " before trekking back to the base and return to your lodge / hotel.

Day 3:
Return to Kigali in the afternoon. Overnight hotel in Kigali Bed/Breakfast.
Day 4
Breakfast.Time permitting visit to the genocide memorial and transfer to Kigali airport.

Best Of Rwanda Primate Explorer:
7 Days/6Nights:
Day 1:
Morning arrival or mid afternoon arrival into Kanombe International Airport at Kigale. Our representatives will meet you and transfer on a lovely 2.5 hour drive through winding roads to the Mountain Gorillas Nest Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2:
Day of gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes gorilla park. Depending on the lvel of fitness, you may be allowed to choose the group of gorillas you wish to visit. The closest being about 2 hours or even a couple of minutes from the park boundary. Meals and overnight at the Mountain Gorillas' Nest Lodge.
Day 3:
Early morning hike to the Famous Dian Fossey Research centre and Grave Yard. Where Dr. Fossey spent close to two decades habituating, studying and conserving the endangered Mountain Gorillas. Return for overnight at the Mountain Gorillas Nest Lodge in Kinigi. |

Day 4:
Morning breakfast then transfer to the Nyungwe Forest. This Forest contains a variety of habitats including montane forest, bamboo, grasslands, swamps and bogs, and is very mountainous too. It prvides some of the best Golden Monkey trekking experiences in East Africa. Meals and Overnight at Gisakura Guest House.
Day 5:
Breakfast early before starting the morning Chimpanzee trekking expedition in the forest in search of colonies of habituated Golden Monkeys. Other wildlife in the forest include: grey-cheeked mangabeys, blue monkeys, Angolan colobus, L'hoest's monkeys and owl-faced monkeys. Meals and overnight at Gisakura Guest House.
Day 6:
Morning at leisure before heading to Visit of the Genocide Memorial where remains of thousands of Tutsis and moderate Hutus can be seen. Meals and overnight at the Hotel Des Millecollines.
Day 7:
Morning transfer to the airport for departure flight.

Day 1:
The Rwanda Gorilla Safari starts from Kigali as we transfer through very scenic Hills known as the Mille Collines. Drive through to the edge of the Nyungwe Forest arriving late in the evening for dinner and overnight at the Nyungwe Tented Camp or other. Meal plan - Dinner.
Day 2:
The walking safari in the forest starts with your ranger guides leading the way into the forests teeming with primates, birds and other wildlife. On the tour, you may see colonies of Angola Colobus and some species of Golden Monkeys. Later, have your lunch before dinner and overnight at the Nyungwe Tented Camp or other. Meal plan - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. |

Day 3:
After breakfast, the safari takes us to a different part of the forest to trek a troop of wild Chimpanzees. There after, you depart along the rift Valley and steep hills. After lunch, head north to the Beach Town of Kibuye arriving in the early afternoon. Check in into the Morial Hill Resort. Meal plan - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 4:
Breakfast at lesisure before heading to the Shores of Lake Kivu in Gisenyi. The afternoon, you will visit Rosamond Carr's Orphanage for the Children. Later, proceed to your Hotel for dinner and overnight at the Kivu Serena Hotel.
Meal plan - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 5:
Set up early for driving through cultivated farms arriving for a briefing at the park offices. Start the Golden moneky safari walking through the Bamboo forests. The colonies of the rare Golden Monkeys are sighted feeding in the forest and will be observed for aproximately one hour. There after, transfer to the Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge for overnight.

Day 6:
After a morning game drive, start the gorilla safari trekking through some thick Mountain Vegetation. The Mountain gorillas will be found in their feeding range and will be viewed for about one hour before returning to your accommodations for meals and overnght. Day 7:
The gorilla safari ends with a 2 hour drive to Kigali to catch your homeward flight

This safari includes both a visit to the gorillas and the chimps as well as a visit to the
savannahs of Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda where a large variety of animals as
well as birds are found.
Day 1:
Arrive to Kigali International Airport where you will be met by your driver / guide for the safari. Lunch either in Kigali or en route depending on arrival time. Proceed to eastern Rwanda and Akagera National Park. Afternoon game drive and overnight at Akagera Lodge half board
Day 2:
Proceed to southern Rwanda and Nyungwe Forest National Park arriving late afternoon / early evening. Lunch and visit to Butare museum en route.

Day 3:
Early start trekking for the chimpanzees, this can take anything from a few hours to a full day depending on where the chimpanzees are. It should be mentioned that it is not guaranteed to see the chimps as they are unpredictable and can move long distances during one day. There are several other primates in Nyungwe such as the Ruwenzori collubus, L’Hoest’s monkey, The Silver monkey, Owl faced monkey and the Grey cheeked Mangabey to name a few. After the trek return to base.
