Oldarpoi Mara Camp Masai Mara:
Oldarpoi Mara Community Camp is a safari camp just outside the gates of the Masai Mara Game reserve. The camp is solely owned by the local Masai community and aims to bring transformational development socially and economically to the local Masai communities, turning them into self-reliant and self-sustaining communities, through profitable eco-tourism activities. The camp is built with all the comforts of home, including solar-heated showers, bed with pillows, sheets, blankets, mosquito nets, and porches with armchairs.


CAMP FACILITIES:
Oldarpoi Maasai Safari Camp,is on the edge of one of the world's greatest wildlife safari parks.
In line with the its advocated eco-tourism concepts, the camp has a comprehensive solar system through funding by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany
It is built with all the comforts of home, including bathrooms ensuite with flush toilets, hot showers, beds with pillows, sheets, blankets and mosquito nets, and porches with armchairs. Additionally, as a back up, a standby generator that supplies lights and refrigeration for the dining area allows cellphones and digital cameras to be recharged.
The camp also has a section for campers to pitch up their own tents. The camping section has got it's own ablution block, stand in showers, wash up areas, own kitchen and dining room.
This section is best suited for overland trucks and self serviced camping groups and individuals.


Ownership & Operation
Oldarpoi Mara Community Camp is affiliated to I See Maasai Development Initiative (ISMDI). This is an organizationn whose mission is to empower the Maasai economically by advocating for education and by leading a campaign to eradicate such practices as female genital mutilation (FGM)
Oldarpoi and ISMDI are committed to pursuing holistic development projects, where jobs are created and local income generated; healthcare and education programs are initiated; environment is preserved; harmful traditional practices are discouraged; and clean water is made available to all.
ISMDI on the other hand, handles the accruing profits, by ploughing it into sustainable development projects in the community.

Location:
Oldarpoi Mara Community Camp is located 3 km before the Sekenani gate in Maasai Mara Game Reserve, which is 230 km south of Nairobi and 100 km from Narok town. Maasai Mara Game is the Seventh Wonder of the World, and the fourth most popular tourist destination in the world.
History:
Oldarpoi Mara Community Camp, which sits on 40 acres of community land, opened in December 2006. The camp is solely owned by the local Maasai community and it is built with all the comforts of home, including hot showers, beds with pillows, sheets, blankets and mosquito nets, and porches with armchairs. The camp started with five old tents, with money raised from members' contributions.
With the support of the German Ambassador's Self Help Fund, five more new tents were purchased in 2008. The German Embassy is currently reviewing a proposal to fund a comprehensive solar system in the camp. This undertaking will help the camp achieve its goal of creating a safe eco-friendly environment, besides making its operations more cost-effective.
