Mt.Kenya Climbing-- Sirimon Route.
5Days/4Nights :
Sirimon -Down Sirimon.
Day
1.Nairobi-Nanyuki
Depart Nairobi in the morning after breakfast arriving Nanyuki
for lunch. The rest of the day is spent acclimatizing. Dinner
and overnight at a selected Hotel.
Day 2.Nanyuki-Old Moses Hut(3500m)
Depart Nanyuki for Sirimon Gate, after check in begin hiking
for about 5hours through rain forest to old Moses mountain
hut. Dinner and overnight at the hut.
Day 3.Old Moses-Shipton Hut(4200m)
Today climb 4200m at shipton hut, directly below point Lenana
Peak, the climb provides some amazing vistas of snow-covered
peaks. Dinner and overnight at Hut.(6-7hours).
Day 4.Shipton-Old Moses
Arise before dark and leave for the final climb to point
Lenana at4985m (17058ft). After enjoying the incredible views
and the success of reaching the top, descend back for Moses
Camp, Dinner and overnight.
Day 5.Old Moses-Nairobi
After breakfast depart for Nairobi arriving in the afternoon.

5Days/4Nights: Route: Sirimon out Chogoria
Day 1.Nairobi-Sirimon.
Drive from Nairobi/Nanyuki to sirimon park gate. Then hike in
3hrs for 9km to old moses camp(3300m) for dinner and
overnight.
Day 2.
Breakfast and then hike via Mackinders valley to Shiptons
Camp(4200m) for 5-7hrs arriving in the late afternoon for
dinner and overnight.
Day 3.
This is an acclimatization day-Climb high and sleep low. Hike
up to 4700m and then back to Shiptons Camp for lunch. Spend
the whole afternoon relaxing. Dinner and overnight at Shiptons
Camp.
Day 4.
Summit Day: Wake up early in the morning 2:30am.Have some tea
and cookies, start hiking at around 3:00am to Lenana
Point(4985m) getting there on time at around 6:00am to catch
up with the sunrise. Take photos and then drop down to Mintos
Camp for your breakfast. After breakfast drop further for 7hrs
to Chogoria Bandas arriving there late afternoon for dinner
and overnight.
Day 5.
Early morning breakfast,then drop further via the Bamboo rain
forest.Walk for 10km and then catch up with 4 wheel drive if
the road is accessible to drop Chogoria Village for Lunch and
then connect your car back to Nairobi/Nanyuki or as per your
programme.

5Days/4Nights: Route: Sirimon Traverse Naro-Moru.
Day 1.
Drive from Nairobi/Nanyuki to sirimon park gate. Then hike in
3hrs for 9km to old moses camp(3300m) for dinner and
overnight.
Day 2.
Breakfast and then hike to Shiptons Camp(4200m) for 5-7hrs
arriving in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
Day 3.
Summit Day: Wake up early in the morning 2:30am.Have some tea
and cookies, start hiking at around 3:00am to Lenana
Point(4985m) getting there on time at around 6:00am to catch
up with the sunrise. Take photos and then traverse to
Naro-Moru route via Austrian hut then to Mackinders camp for
breakfast. After breakfast relax and then Lunch.After lunch
take a walk to Telekii tarn and then back to Mackinders for
your dinner and overnight.
Day 5.
Early morning breakfast,then drop via a big rain forest
to Naro-Moru gate.Here connect your car to Naro-moru village
and proceed back to Nairobi or as per your programme.

Equipment List
Headlamp
Walking pole(s)/
Sleeping Bag,
Gaiters: To keep mud, rocks, and snow out of your boots.
Water purification: This is essential as water for drinking is
taken directly from mountain streams.
Hiking Boots: This is the most important item on the list.
You'll need a comfortable/waterproof pair of hiking boots
which offer plenty of support. Make sure they are broken in
before you get to Kilimanjaro!

NB: Make sure that your boots are waterproof

1 head lamp (plus spare batteries & bulb)

2 - 3 packets of moist towelettes.
1 travel pillow (optional)
Personal Items & Toiletries:
US $ Travelers cheques, toothpaste & tooth brush, body
lotion, toilet paper and other personal hygiene items.
(Ladies, please carry some sanitary toiletries as being at
high altitude may alter your cycle).
Photographic (optional):
1 camera (plus spare batteries),film & tripod stand,different
lenses,
1 pair of binoculars,video camera,video tapes, battery packs.
Miscellaneous (Optional):
notebook, pencil, sketchbook, masking tape, zip loc plastic
bags, ear plugs, address list for post cards, map of
Kilimanjaro (the trip leader will have one).
HEALTH:
Yellow Fever: This is compulsory and a certificate
might be requested on arrival at the airport. Please make sure
that you have the shot in time.
Malaria: There are various types of medicine on the
market today used for prevention and treatment of malaria. We
recommend that you consult your doctor on which prophylactics
to take.
Water purification tablets:
On the mountain, we use water from the streams. Although
drinking water will be boiled first, it is advisable to add a
tablet or two - to be on the safe side.
Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS):
This is a condition commonly experienced at high altitude. In
most cases, this can be avoided by following guidelines on
hiking pace, eating, resting and fluid intake. We recommend
that you familiarize yourself with the various affects that
altitude can cause.
(Please consult your doctor on use of Diamox - tablets used by
some mountaineers to help them cope with the effects of
altitude).
Personal medical supplies (optional): As your tour leaders, we
will carry a group medical kit.
Some items that you might want to carry would include;
aspirin, imodium, laxatives, antibiotics, bandages, malaria
tablets, gauze, adhesives, betadine, throat lozenges, eye
drops, sun block, lip balm, moleskin antihistamine tablets and
cream . |
